Through those trying times, I reached a pivotal moment where I decided to seek counseling. This decision marked the beginning of a significant transformation in my life. One of the most impactful experiences was attending Social Anxiety Ireland, a 14-week group therapy program specifically designed for individuals like myself. This program utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we explored the thoughts and emotions people experience prior to, during, and following challenging social situations. It equipped me with strategies to change these patterns.
Mindfulness was a core aspect of this program. It taught me the value of being present, which played a crucial role in reshaping my approach to anxiety. Over time, I’ve reached a point where the intensity of my anxiety has decreased significantly, leaving me with a sense of peace and newfound freedom.
What I’ve learned through self-help and a mix of online and offline therapy has been invaluable. It feels empowering to say that I can now better manage my anxiety.
